This is a darted multi compartment sling bag/camera bag I designed.
It was designed with several functions in mind. I wanted it to have a snag proof exterior so that it could also be used as a storage cube or bag organizer when stored in a larger bag. I also wanted the ability to use it as a hip pack.
To solve those problems I decided to use Fidlock retractable snap fasteners paired with a push button release female side for a 360 swivel.
When the male fastener is at rest it creates a flat profile resisting snagging on anything else in the bag when the strap is disconnected.
The push button female side allows for a 360 swivel allowing the strap to sit comfortably in any position, removing the need to have two mounting positions for over the shoulder and hip pack wearing positions.
The bag was designed to fit a camera in the center section and some everyday essentials in the darted storage panels.
The darts are uneven, the bottom darts are closer to a 90 deg to create a deeper area for larger items to settle into.
The angles of the top darts create a flatter profile for the zipper to sit on, creating a direct opening into the pocket vs the bottom darts that do give more volume but will make accessing the pocket more difficult.
The center pocket is designed to fit a camera and a spare lens.
The panels surrounding the center pocket (bottom/side panel up to the zipper and side panels separating center from darted pockets) have 1/4" high density closed cell foam inside them to protect the camera from small drops and provide structure to the bag.
The center pocket is also lined with a calfskin leather to give a more premium feel to the bag.
The darted front pockets are symmetrical and both feature a stretch mesh split pocket for further organization.
