This is the second version of my original sling bag design (shown below)
Updates:
Dart pattern optimized center zipper lengthened, flush handle added, additional hypalon and webbing loops added for future expandable storage (water bottle holder?!) Foam padded wings to contour the body when wearing on hip.
The first update was the pattern for the darted front pocket.
Due to the asymmetrical darts from top to bottom, by aligning the apex of the darts in a trapezoid allowed for the fabric to conform in a more natural manner.
It may be hard to notice but on the original bag, the darts are sitting inwards and there is tension pulling on them causing an uneven appearance on the entire front panel when at rest.
The width of the center or now back pocket was increased to keep the internal volume similar to the original.
Due to the wearing style being designed for the hip, it made more sense to add a spacer mesh foam panel as the primary contact point VS using a secondary darted panel.
From this angle you will also notice that the zipper for the main compartment is longetr allowing you to open the pocket up further. Due to the Fidlock placement on V1 this was not possible.
3d pattern making using Rhino
As my ongoing search for tools to improve my skills continues, I decided it was time to enter the 3rd dimension...
Using the measurements from V1 I created a rough model within rhino with the intent of flattening VS modeling for visualization purposes.
Interactive model below:
I started in Rhino, building the volumes out with an understanding of seam placement to separate out the surfaces.
Pattern is unwrapped using commands in rhino and exported to illustrator (1st image)
I cleaned all the open/intersecting lines and joined the darted panel (2nd image)
The last step is the standard seam allowance and pattern notes (3rd image)
